I was born a poor... no wait, that was Steve Martin in The Jerk. I graduated class of 1976 from Gateway SHS in Monroeville, PA. I went to many, many colleges trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I managed to graduate with a BA in math from Boston University and (much later) with an MA in communication, culture, & technology from Georgetown.
Along the way, I did lots of high-tech jobs (like programming, system management, tech support, and QA) for high-tech companies like Adams-Russell, Intermetrics (both of which have been acquired out of existence) and MAYA Design. These days, I'm doing lots of interesting web work for AARP in Washington, DC. At the same time, I'm a grad student at the University of Baltimore in their doctorate in communication design program.
And just because you may be interested (hell, you clicked on the link, didn't you?), I'm also the founder of the STC Information Design SIG and co-editor of a book that looks at technical communication and information design called .
Nearly all my relatives live in either Pittsburgh or San Diego, so the answer to "are you related to so-and-so Mazur?" is probably no. Though I was surprised once by a co-worker at AARP who went to law school with one of my cousins. So it can happen!
My other accomplishments in life include rowing in the 1993 Head of the Charles (okay, we were an extra entry for Community Rowing), skiing all the double-blacks at Sunday River, and being Aunt Beth to Beverly, Christine, Christopher, and Alexis, my favorite people.
