free WiFi at MickeyDs Mike brings new meaning to "I surf as much as I eat."

Does this create a new context for information designers? Do we need to start worry about McSnippets? Small chunks of useful information that one can digest (no pun intended) while folks are surfing at MickeyDonald's (as the nieces call it) or Starbucks?

Maybe the picture isn't too gloomy. One of my email alerts this morning talked about NewburyOpen.net, who is making WiFi available for free to visitors to Boston's Newbury St. area. The article (update: link here) speculated that as more businesses realized that providing WiFi was relatively inexpensive, we might have more folks like Tech Superpowers who provide WiFi as a service to their community and fewer folks like McDonalds who'll want to charge for it.

See WiFiFreeSpot for a list of free WiFi locations.
