A new toy!
And, can I just say, yikes, what documentation there is (and there isn't much that's useful) really bites. I'm not one of those folks who is convinced that convergence is a myth, but boy, we've got a long way to go before these kinds of things are general consumer products. The hardest part was figuring out the d*mn plans and what's included and what's not. T-mobile (and their bazillion plans and names for things) was probably the biggest pain of all. Don't look for me to be mo-blogging the way Mike does so well. But this may cause designing for tiny screens to bump up a little on my priority list!

Fascinating intro to your new product -- but I suspect your exasperated comment about the "long way to go" before these things are general consumer products -- speaks loads of the information design questions that come into play... At what point does a manufacturer recognize that documentation that doesn't "bite" (and probably an interface that doesn't "bite") hinders potential consumers from buying tools? Or must we wait until enough of these products have been purchased, that it becomes necessary for every business person to have a small screen t-mobile accessible product? And then the onus lies on who? -- outside trainers perhaps? -- to give us a clue about how to navigate the tool to get our jobs done. Reminds me that advocacy for clarity lies at the heart of the work we do... -- Posted by thom haller on April 6, 2003 01:58 PMnice keep me posted as to how you like the treo -- Posted by keith knutsson on April 6, 2003 02:32 PMNice! When you have time, I expect you to document any usability horrors you might find on your Treo. You might want to check out Handspring's Palm Emulator as a way to get clean screenshots of Palm apps or cached web pages: http://www.handspring.com/developers/tech_pose.jhtml Take care... -- Posted by Mike Lee on April 8, 2003 11:29 PM
