IDblog ... an information design weblog

Bye bye e-books?

Barnes and Noble has announced that they will stop selling e-books. Read more from Motley Fool and Slashdot.

As I've just finished reading The Tipping Point, this is an interesting postscript...and perhaps a good research topic for my Information Culture class this fall.

Two years ago, I did a seminar on e-books, and all my research led me to think that they were overly protectionist and massively unusable. [They are also overpriced, if you consider the issue of production costs.]

I can't say I'm surprised about this turn of events.

Eh--good riddance if you ask me. They wanted too much money for 'em, and on an ongoing basis, for Pete's sake. Gimme a dog-eared copy of Anna Karenina for fifty cents at a yard sale anytime!
