IDblog ... an information design weblog

Linkomania

Ouch! Everyone is coming back from the holidays and playing catch-up, so I'm resorting to a quick list o' links so I don't get behind. For your reading pleasure:

  • Peterme has a wonderful description about the great information design of US national park brochures. His commentary: "Your Tax Dollars Delivering Good Design."
  • A couple good links from circadian shift on info overload/pollution. There's Jakob Nielsen's IM, Not IP (Information Pollution) on instant messaging that is remarkably tame for Jakob. There's also Choice Overload by Stanford's Paul Whitmore (see his home page for more interesting fodder).
  • Here's a great site for web design references that I got from Gunnar who got it from Zeldman. Zeldman writes that the site is a "mega-reference containing over 3,000 links to information and articles about web design, with an emphasis on web standards and accessibility."
  • Challis points to a new design research roundtable. I don't recognize the participants, but am sympathetic to the problem.
  • There are some very interesting anti-Bush commercials at Bush in 30 seconds (I found this one fairly compelling). The ads are causing all sorts of controversy.

BTW, I must have had a senior moment or some glitch in weblog editing, but I meant to point to Dirk Knemeyer's interview with Richard Saul Wurman yesterday. I agree with Christina that folks who have followed Wurman won't be surprised by this interview. I'm also sympathetic that Dirk decided to treat information design and information architecture as "synonymous" ... years ago, when asked about the difference between the two, Wurman shared that he found this kind of discussion "academic and pointless." Boy, I've gotten some mileage out of that quote :).
